I’ve been knitting socks for some time now and, to be frank, there is no shortage of great free sock patterns out there. Still I wanted to create something original. I have this gorgeous wool/silk/nylon blend, hand-crafted yarn I want to use. My first attempt at using this yarn didn’t yield pretty results. The pattern was too busy. I knew I needed to use a very simple pattern with this variegated yarn but still I like texture. I’m just not a vanilla sock kind of gal.
Meet “As it Goes”
My very first original knitting pattern! As it goes has a gentle and subtle swirl of purl bumps that wind themselves around my leg adding textural interest without overwhelming the color variations of the yarn.
This design is a fast knit and easy project that is suitable for a first time sock knitter. It’s offered in a woman’s medium size, but with a 4 stitch repeat this one would be very easy to resize as needed to fit any foot or yarn. Techniques used include:
- Slip stitch heel
- Easy toe
- Kitchener stitch
Anyhow, here’s the pattern. It’s a free download.
